Therapies in development for SCA12
SCA12 has no approved treatment, and as of 2026 no clinical trial for it is registered anywhere. This page tracks what is actually being built in a lab right now.
How to read this
From a lab idea to a medicine
A new therapy normally has to clear six stages: years of lab work, then three phases of human trials, then regulatory review, before it can reach a patient. Most ideas that start in the first box never leave it.

Antisense oligonucleotide, lowering the toxic RNA
No company or pharmaceutical sponsor is involved yet — the lab science is entirely academic, and still needs a manufacturing and funding partner before it can be tested in animals or people. That is the gap this collaboration is trying to close. A 2026 review of the condition found that “antisense oligonucleotides... have not yet been studied in SCA12” and that no clinical trials are currently registered for it, which matches what is shown here. We fund, run, or control none of the underlying science. Placement on this chart is not a promise of when, or whether, a therapy will reach patients.
